I have a strong desire to do a Erik in a dress fic

or rather Erik understands his gender as more fluid and loves to cross dress but has been repressing it from most of his life fic. Original trilogy or possible comicverse of course.

Star Trek Novel

So I bought my first ever Star Trek novel today. Doctor's Orders by Diane Duane is supposed to be awesome and be very McCoy centric so I can't wait. I also might blog my thoughts and experiences while reading it.

Unwritten (Fanfiction - X-Men)

Title: Unwritten

Author: slash4femme

Pairing: Charles/Erik

Universe: X-Men (original trilogy)

Rating: PG-13

Warning: past violence, disability, chronic pain, complicated intimacy

Summery: years of war take there toll and some of Erik's scars are physical

Disclaimer: I do not own the characters or the setting only the plot is mine.

Notes: not beta'd sorry. This can be read as taking place in the post- Days of Future Past in the newly retconned "modern" universe. Honestly you could probably read this with an eye to the comic books too though. My version of the movie verse characters tend to bleed into comic books characters a little bit.

even more cherik fic stuff

 I can't decide what I want to write first/more:

Sex Worker/Modern AU with older Charles/Erik kind of going from the premise of what it would have been like if Charles and Erik hadn't met until later in life. With a kind of spy/political intrigue twist.

OR

Modern AU with younger Charles/Erik focusing on their respective disabilities where they are both academically inclined roommates.

more cherik fic idea

What I really want is to write a modern AU based on the new trilogy characters where Erik is a Sephardic/Mizrahi  Jew with PTSD. But I'm not sure I want to deal with Fassbander fans reaction to me making Erik a person of color.

Edit: I'll probably do it anyway though.

cherik fic ideas

I've been kind of lazily coming up with a list of cherik fic ideas. I have it in my head that I want to write some kind of epic Modern AU with a lot of political intrigue. I have the notes but who knows if I'll be motivated to write it. I haven't decided if that will be best with the newer trilogy characters or the older trilogy characters yet though.

I also have some of the snippets I wrote on Tumblr that I want to put together into an actual fic, plus an idea that also got kicked around on Tumblr that I have a couple pages written of already.  I keep working on them a little bit and them putting them away, coming back to them, putting them away again. I do need to finish something at some point though.

that one moment of quiet

I'm just putting up this picture of Charles drinking tea and reading a book because I have it. While this entire story arc was deeply fucked this is a bittersweet moment I actually loved.

This is to say that mutantmasterofmagnetism on Tumblr pointed out how much it looks like Charles is wearing a skirt (maybe a dress) here and now I have to deal with Charles in a skirt/dress feelings.

Me, Fandom and Jessica Jones

After watching Jessica Jones I'm kind of glad I stepped away from fandom when I did. Obviously I'm writing about it here, but I've severally limited my fandom presence and I think that's over all a good thing.

Jessica Jones is all about women and characters of color, in a way that is both unapologetic and also in your face. These are real people with real flaws, who struggle in real ways against real odds.

White man appear in this story as villains or bit players and that's pretty much it. They have no power outside of being the villains, their actions don't matter again outside of them being the villains of the story. There is no apology made for this, it isn't softened. Let's be real both Killgrave and Sampson are not just villains they are villains who manipulate and eventually threaten the lives of the women and people of color around them.

I know already that this is going to be hard for fandom. There is a high possibility that Jessica Jones is going to make fans face a lot of stuff about how they think about gender and race. That's possibly going to get pretty ugly. Already I've seen people are saying stuff about Jessica Jones they would never have said about Daredevil. Jessica Jones is a race and gender fail waiting to happen within fandom and people will probably learn from that, but I' don't want to be around when it happens.

Jessica Jones and Daredevil

One of the great things about them all being in the same version of New York is that we will probably see crossover. It doesn't even have to be them fighting together (although that would be awesome) I just want like Luke and Matt hanging out. Foggy once referred to Luke as the only superhero friend Matt had. Or Jessica Jones working as Matt and Foggy's body guard, which she did in the comics when Nelson & Murdock was being targeted and Daredevil needed to keep a low profile.

These things are now possible on screen and it makes me so happy.

Jessica Jones: watch

so I will be watching Jessica Jones on the 21-22. I'll probably live tweet it and then post those tweets here. I might also live post here, but I will definitely be posting a review after I've seen the season. I am totally stoked for this (with so much Luke/Jessica love in my heart,) I saw the kinkmeme is already officially up and squeed.

Matt Murdock and Thurgood Marshall

"Democracy just cannot flourish amid fear. Liberty cannot bloom amid hate. Justice cannot take root amid rage. America must get to work. In the chill climate in which we live, we must go against the prevailing wind. We must dissent from the indifference. We must dissent from the apathy. We must dissent from the fear, the hatred and the mistrust. We must dissent from a nation that has buried its head in the sand, waiting in vain for the needs of its poor, its elderly, and its sick to disappear and just blow away. We must dissent from a government that has left its young without jobs, education or hope. We must dissent from the poverty of vision and the absence of moral leadership. We must dissent because America can do better, because America has no choice but to do better." -Thurgood Marshall 1992.

I have no doubt that shortening the Thurgood Marshall quote Matt reads (which a paraphrasing of the above quote) was meant to save time on the show. It’s a long hunk of texted and would have cluttered up the dialog.

On the other hand the writers of the show left out the political and social commentary within Thurgood Marshall’s speech. The urgency to take action against suffering, corruption and apathy is lost in the shortening.

Which is a pity because I think it informs Matt’s character maybe more than the quote use on the show.

Marshall meant this to be a call to action and, given who Matt is, I’m sure he read it as one.

Review of Ant Man

went and saw ant-man at a “midnight showing” last night for my brother’s birthday with some more of the sibs and his friends.

It was a fun movie, I enjoyed watching it a lot. There were some genuinely funny moments. They changed canon in this movie probably more than any other, but realistically they had no other choice. The canon around ant-man had aged badly, to say the very least. In the end I was satisfied with what they did (except for the part about Janet.) The story telling scenes were awesome, I love the way they were done.

All this being said Tor.com asked if Ant-Man was a necessary part of the MCU canon? I would say no, it wasn’t. The movie didn’t really add anything to the MCU mythos or world building.

Major spoilers under the cut

Academics and Revolutionaries Headcanons: notes of a epic modern AU crossover idea

Academics and revolutionaries Modern xmen/daredevil crossover AU where Columbia PhD student, specializing in disability studies, Charles Xavier teams up with second year law student Matt Murdock to tackle the issue of classroom accessibility. But also end up having very long conversations about how far the graduate parking lot is from the main building and how often in winter the sidewalks aren’t cleared. Or Professor Miller won’t allow his lectures to be recorded even though it’s first year tort law for God’s sake. Read more... )

On a lighter note

 a while ago I Googled "slash4femme" right when I came back to fandom after having been gone for 3-4 years. I discovered that while a lot of my fandom stuff and passed into dust. My legacy did live on in the fact that I was cited on the Fanlore Mpreg page, check it: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Mpreg#cite_note-10 ;

Which I think is hilarious and still gives me a chuckle because mpreg is not a kink of mine and I've written maybe two mpreg fics since 2004. But that's how I am remember in the annuls of the internet.
